11.11.16 Thank you for your service

November 12, 2016 by admin Leave a Comment

img_1669-jpgMy oldest son, Dakota, is in the Navy. He’s in the Reserves and proudly has been a Seabee for over three years. Right now, during Veteran’s Day, he’s on his two week annual training somewhere in California.

My father, James R. Hess (originally from Saint Clair, Penna.) served many years in the Army and Marines, then the Army and Air Force Reserves. My father-in-law William Ramus served in the Army.

To the men and women of our armed forces – we thank you for your service.

11.10.16 Back to The Jungle

November 12, 2016 by admin Leave a Comment

img_2504It’s been almost a week since I’ve been at the gym and today hurt. Even though I walked miles in heels for four days at the conference, getting back to the gym was painful. I’ve been working out at The Jungle in Schuylkill Haven for three and a half years now, and while I like the results I see and I like the people at the gym – I still have to push myself to get dressed and get going in the morning. And if I don’t do it first thing in the morning, I won’t do it at all. “I’ll do it after my appointments” just doesn’t work for me.

It’s like the time management philosophy of “Eat that Frog.” Every day you should do your worst task first – the one you hate and dread. Call that seller whose house is just not getting any showings or any offers, even if you really don’t want to have the conversation. Call the client who is angry at you for some reason, even when you dread picking up the phone.

What about your goals and dreams? Do you have something you’d really love to do, but just cannot find the time or energy to do it? Shia LaBeouf has the answer.

What’s your frog? Just do it.

11.9.16 From cover girl to assistant water meter girl

November 12, 2016 by admin Leave a Comment

img_2496I teach real estate licensing and know that many newbies think our jobs as real estate agents is easy and fun. We just open a door and sell a house. We get to see all the best houses inside and glean decorating ideas from perfectly staged homes. We go out to lunch every day and then meet up for happy hours after touring a few homes and whipping out a sales contract or two. Oh, that is so not a typical day.

Saturday I was on the red carpet with Emmy award winning actor Ty Burrell – and today I am holding a flashlight for the water meter man as we discover leaks leaks leaks in a foreclosure. “Step back a little so you don’t get sprayed too bad,” he says as he hands me the flashlight. Alrighty then.
